Excuse this photo, but I took it with my cell phone in a little restaurant we stopped at a couple months ago. They had several walls accessorized this way and I thought it was interesting (and of course I had to take a photo in case someone in blogland could use the idea!)

Creative Decorating Ideas - 11

THIS POST IS FROM ROOM REMIX - THE BLOG .

We saw a long lumbar pillow in this creative decorating post but here is a smaller one used in a different way with other pillows. Still loving the idea...

Rather than hanging a bulletin board, make a statement by upholstering and framing a large cork board and leaning it against the wall...

"Wallpaper" your walls with photos. Normally this idea would be a little busy for me, but they've used all white mats and the frame colors are consistent with the colors used in the furnishings and fabrics in the room which keeps it from getting crazy. Notice how they've also done a version of the color block by leaving a wide white border around the wall color...

If your room is feeling a little too neutral and you don't want to make a big commitment to color, hang inexpensive artwork in colorful frames. When you're tired of the color, swap out the artwork and paint the frames a different color or go all neutral again.

We've talked about painting ceilings before but we haven't shown the idea of using using high gloss white paint on the ceiling like Alex Bates, the creative director of West Elm, did on the ceiling in her beach cottage to reflect the natural light...

She also used chalked lines to turn the family's deck into a game board for oversize chess pieces. Fun!

Hope you're having a great day!

Laquered Headboard

THIS POST IS FROM ROOM REMIX - THE BLOG .

Since we were talking about bedrooms yesterday, and it's been a while since I've done a post about headboards, I thought I would show you this great headboard that I found at Metropolitan Home . I love the shape and the way it's finished. It's made of wood, lacquered, and trimmed in stainless steel.

Easy Bedroom Update

THIS POST IS FROM ROOM REMIX - THE BLOG .

If you want a simple bedroom update, just change the mirror. That's it! Easy peasy.

I've been in many homes that still have the mirror that matches the dresser - sometimes it's attached TO the dresser. The set. Just like it was on the showroom floor. Which is okay. If you like that. I don't, but that's my personal preference. I say, MIX IT UP! Get a different mirror that doesn't match the dresser, and you'll be amazed at how that one small thing can breathe a little fresh life into your room. It doesn't have to be a new or expensive mirror. Maybe you already have one somewhere else in the house that you can switch out? If not, can you just change the finish on the one that you have with paint (color or metallic).?

HAPPY WEEKEND!

Creative Decorating Ideas - 10

THIS POST IS FROM ROOM REMIX - THE BLOG .

Something as simple as children's photos framed with a paint border that extends around the room makes a wonderful design statement in this children's playroom designed by Mabley Handler Interior Design for the 2008 HC&G Idea House ...

It looks like this curtain is hiding storage, but it wouldn't have to be. Couldn't you add a curtain just because you wanted to? In this case the fabric gives some softness to the space and pulls the color scheme together (or maybe that's where the color scheme started...)

The divider used in the bathroom of this Westchester Magazine Dream Home is creative and interesting, isn't it? A great solution to divide while still keeping the overall feel light and airy...

Foyer/Entry Ideas

THIS POST IS FROM ROOM REMIX - THE BLOG .

homeandgardens.com

A few ideas for your foyer/entry today. Hope you're having a great weekend!

Marthastewart.com says, "Streamlined, wall-mounted nightstands are even more versatile in a foyer, keeping keys, leashes, and other small items at hand, as well as providing surfaces for decorative displays". I agree that it's a great idea! What do you think?

These pretty stacked boxes make a beautiful statement in this foyer and could also be used to store items that aren't often used but still need to have convenient access. Westchester Magazine

We see a lot of accessorized chests/tables in foyers and we see benches used for the function of seating in foyers, but why not use a bench as a table and accessorize it for something just a little different?

Turquoise Art and a Design Tip

THIS POST IS FROM ROOM REMIX - THE BLOG .

Happy Friday everyone! Hope you've had a good week. It's been a busy one for me without much time for posting or blog visiting, but I at least wanted to get this little random post out today in time to tell you HAPPY WEEKEND!

I saw this art by Hope Smith at Target this week. I really like it and am thinking I need to find somewhere to use it in my house. They're only 12 x 12 so they would even fit on a bookshelf. I went to Target's website to find the images for this post, but they evidently only sell these in their stores. Luckily allposters.com sells them as well, so these images are from their site...

On a completely unrelated note... a while back I bookmarked a post on Apartment Therapy that had design tips from designer Kenneth Brown. The design tip that he was demonstrating with the photo below was: "Each room should have at least one unique piece that has a special meaning to you (even if it doesn’t match the decor of the room)." Great advice, and I love the unexpected element of the rustic table in this room!

Hope you all have an awesome weekend!
