This is a redesign that I helped a client with a few years ago. They didn't need to use this space as a living room so she wanted instead to design a traditional sitting area to curl up with a book or have a conversation with a friend. She already had some art that she loved and wanted to use that as inspiration for the room/color scheme. Some of the other things on her wish list: minimal pattern, warm and cozy, chocolate leather. She obviously knew what she wanted but just wasn't sure how to put it together, so she asked for my help.
I presented a plan based on her input which she used to shop on her own and put the room together as she had time and resources. Shopping with the plan gave her good direction, but she was also able to modify it according to her taste. For example, I had presented a different chair option, but she found these that both she and her husband loved. While I suggested a neutral color block behind the art work, she was comfortable with it as is. It turned out to be a very collaborative decorating effort and she was pleased with the results. The only thing she hadn't completed when this photo was taken were a few accessories and the flooring (she was either going to put in hardwood floors or new carpet but hadn't decided yet).
